The Joliet American Legion Band is an all-volunteer, award winning, non-profit organization.

The band has been dedicated to providing an excellent musical experience for loyal audiences since 1946.  Comprised of a variety of musicians from all walks of life, ranging in age from 18 to 89 years of age, the band carries a unique sound similar to the disciplined tradition of John Philip Sousa.  While the mission of the band is to make exceptional music; many members have found the band to be  an exceptional way to make friends too.  Several members have made life-long friends, having been members of the band for over 50 years.  

The band provides 17-20 performances per year, showcasing its talents in concert settings (both indoors and outdoors) as well as in parades.

Joining 

1.  Carefully consider the time commitment required to participate.  

2.  Email the band manager at JolietALB1946@gmail.com Please include name, your name, phone number, instrument, and musical experience. 

3.  Come to a Tuesday night rehearsal to observe the band and/or bring your instrument to play. 

4.  Candidates must attend a minimum of six rehearsals or performances within 2-months before being eligible for membership.  

5.  We accept members 18-yrs. of age and up.  We recruit from area high schools, colleges, and the community.   If you are under 16, you must have a parent or guardian (sister, brother of age) accompany you at rehearsals until you turn 18.  We encourage all individuals to pick up your instrument and play.  

6.  While all instruments are welcome, we are currently in need of percussionists, clarinetists (all types), euphonium, double reed and French horn players.  Color Guard members are also needed. Members of the Color Guard must be a veteran or active military duty personnel.

The band rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Crossroads Christian Church located at 2312 Essington Road, Joliet, IL 60435-1664 (Southeast corner of Essington & Caton Farm -next to Sky Zone Trampoline Park) We welcome musicians to visit us!
